Your body works hard for you and it is time to show it some love!
As performers, we push ourselves into new tricks, engage in repetitive movement while rehearsing, and run on stage without even thinking about warming up. Who has time for building strength and lubricating those joints, right? Wrong! This way of life is not sustainable and will only bring about aches, pains, injuries, and can even cut your showbiz career short.
During this workshop Ginger Leigh will take you through mobility movements to help you move more freely and foundational strength exercises so your muscles are better able to support you through the tricks of the tease. The goal is for you to walk away with tools that help you prepare your body for the rigors or being a badass entertainer (and a human being on planet earth) so you can perform for years to come.
Ginger is using her 12 years as a fitness instructor (including 6 years as a strength coach) to help you help your body by:
Waking up your stiff joints
Strengthening your core for better stability, rotational movement, and more.
Strengthening your lower body and activating your posterior chain - hello booty!
Discussing proper squat technique for YOUR body.
Taking you through unilateral (one sided) movements for balance, better body awareness, and stabilization.
Taking you through movement patterns that will help you feel better getting up from the floor.
Putting weight into your hands and upper body by way of plank variations.
Modifications will be offered when appropriate. Everyone is welcome to modify and take breaks as needed. You know your body better than anyone else!
Please note: This class is NOT intended to fix your injuries. Ginger is not a medical doctor. If you have a serious injury, please consult your doctor.
This class will be a mix of lecture/ demonstration and MOVEMENT!
We will work up a little bit of a sweat, but this is not meant to be a super intense workout!
What to wear: Comfortable clothing you can move and sweat in. Think gym attire!
Please wear sneakers, but be prepared to be barefoot part of the time.
What to bring: Water bottle. A yoga mat if you have one. Not required if you don’t!
Please be sure to eat something a couple of hours before attending class!
