This slow burn burlesque class which combines both technique with elements of dance/movement therapy.
The technique portion of class will cover:
Breath
Rooting down through your feet for balance
Eye contact
Range of motion and energy to keep the audience on their toes.
The dance/movement therapy portion will address questions like:
What does it mean and how does it feel to take up space and time on stage?
How can stillness and holding a pose on stage make us feel differently in our bodies?
What comes up when we 'hold the audience hostage'?"
The class will include lots of movement and slow burn choreography.
Objectives:
To gain practice and confidence in slow burn burlesque.
To gain awareness over what makes us anxiously move fast on stage/ more awareness in general.
To gain empowerment over our bodies and narratives on stage.
Community Impact: This workshop will bring attention to how our bodies respond to our nervousness on stage, and how we can move toward performing with confidence and intention. While there are absolutely slow burn burlesque classes that exist, there is no class which addresses the ways we can retrain our bodies to move slow when we are scared/nervous. This ability to move slow/intentionally mindfully can change how we move throughout the world on a day to day basis, and I have seen this in myself. And just to clarify- the goal isn't to move slow all the time. The goal is for US as performers to be in control of our pacing- and not have our anxiety steering that for us.
