Bellydance and burlesque shimmy together!

American belly dance is a fusion of MENAHT dance with American cabaret dance styles, where it gained notoriety during the Golden Age of Hollywood. This class will introduce students to basic fusion belly dance technique alongside of basic burlesque movement, crafting new patterns and shapes that will slither seamlessly into your burlesque repertoire. Students will focus on body isolations, undulations and more through short combinations and drills, increasing their body awareness and muscle control. No matter your level, you'll find encouragement in every step, discovering the synergy of belly dance and burlesque.

Level: All levels are welcome!

What to wear: Comfortable clothing you can move in. Heels are optional.

Jewelissa is a multi-hyphenate performer based in South Jersey renowned for their narrative burlesque, fusion belly dance, and silk veil prowess. They began their burlesque journey in 2017 at the Philadelphia Burlesque Academy, graduating from the Burlesque Act Development program and debuting as a bellyesque (burlesque and belly dance) performer. They have taught and performed at events such as BeardFest, Anahata's Purpose, and Raven's Night in DC. Recently winning Season X of the Philadelphia Burlesque Battle Royale, Jewelissa was dubbed "Pandora's Box of Philly Burlesque," as their performances continuously defied expectations and left audiences spellbound week after week.

Drawing inspiration from their background in colorguard and flow arts, Jewelissa brings a fresh and unique perspective to fan veil technique and group movement. They are thrilled about teaching at the Philadelphia Burlesque Academy and are eager to share their passion and expertise of fan veils with other burlesque performers!
