Amber Ray is an International Burlesque sensation and downtown NYC Diva with a vibrant and diverse career spanning over 17 years, musing many an expression of art. Tirelessly creating, she’s  won a variety of awards and attention from her bustling networks, communities and even some of her heroes.

She’s especially known for her fierce dramatics on stage, heated sensuality as well as her unique and opulent costumes in which she designs and executes in lush, eye-popping detail. Wether exercising an energetic classic striptease from her striking hourglass figure, acting out a theatrical moment, or humorous storyline, she always incorporates surprises to thrill, bewilder and delight in all her entertainment ventures.
As an expert tease in great demand, she’s headlined in fabulous festivals and beautiful venues across the planet dancing and teaching her way through Europe, Australia, Canada and the US. She most recently performed for Alan Cumming’s private 50th Birthday party.

Judith Stein via Burlesque Hall of Fame

Learn to use your eyes as the source of your power and tease from burlesque legend, The Lady Divine, Judith Stein!

Judith Stein got into burlesque in 1973. As a university student she decided she wanted to see the world and entertain. She was a radical feminist and to her there was no better way to BE a radical feminist than to own her body in front of a live audience. While she was indeed a “sexy” performer, she was (and still is) known for being funny and thought provoking on stage. Judith has performed all over the world. She stepped away from burlesque, but was reintroduced to the revival by Jo Boobs Weldon. Judith is back at it and most notably performs at the Burlesque Hall of Fame every year in Las Vegas.

Don’t miss your chance to learn from Mama Beaver!

About

The Philadelphia Burlesque Academy started as the Peek-A-Boo Dance Clinic in 2012 when the Peek-A-Boo Revue moved their rehearsal home to their little studio on Cedar and Cumberland Streets in Fishtown.

The first few classes were taught by out of town guests – the world renowned Coco Lectric from Austin, Texas was the very first. In 2013 Peek-A-Boo’s Ginger Leigh started teaching beginner burlesque classes to students who returned week after week. Not only did their skills improve, their confidence and self love soared. Ginger knew something amazing was happening and that there was no other choice but to build on what had been started.

More guest instructors came through with workshops, including Darlinda Just Darlinda, Scotty The Blue Bunny, and Lola Forst just to name drop a few. Peek-A-Boo Revue’s Sophie Sucre and Cherry Bomb also joined the league of instructors. In 2016 it was time to expand further and give Philadelphia a true home for burlesque education. A place where people can simply have fun learning burlesque basics, as well as a place for new and experienced performers to learn from each other, practice their art, and build their community. The Philadelphia Burlesque Academy is a place where many burlesque methodologies can be found from performers and teachers from all over Philadelphia and beyond!

Official Provider of Higher Ecdysiast Education for The Philadelphia Burlesque FestivalThe Philadelphia Burlesque Academy is the proud Official Provider of Higher Ecdysiast Education for the 2017 Philadelphia Burlesque Festival! Continue checking back for the full schedule of festival classes!

“The Philadelphia Burlesque Festival is an annual event produced and organized with dedication to the art of burlesque and the community that supports this empowering craft.”
